Thursday, May 12: Second Annual Peeka-Party! (original Peeka Birth Announcement)

Thursday, May 12, 7:30-10:00 (or so)
Vitalis Hoffman Home: 160 Friendship Lane (west on Fairfield 1.5 miles from stoplight by seminary, right on Sunshine Ave. about 50 yards, house is straight ahead at T-intersection)
Mark and Kathy Vitalis Hoffman invite the seminary community to the Second Annual Peeka-Party. It’s a cat thing, but mainly it’s an excuse for an open house celebration. Refreshments provided, but if you want to bring a snack or beverage to share, it won’t be rejected. Hope you can come!

For each session:

• Complete any assigned reading
• Translate the parable to be discussed in class; if the parable appears in more than one Gospel, you need not translate more than one
• Read the appropriate section in Hultgren relating to the parable
• Read the appropriate section in Scott/Capon/Buttrick relating to the parable

Trying to get some ideas for your 're-presentation'? Try these possibilities:

• Could be a sermon: Cf. Buttrick's sermons and how he deals with the parables
• Could be a retelling of the parable: Cf. Capon's retelling of the Laborers in the Vineyard (Kingdom, Grace, Judgment, 391-397)
• While these are a bit technologically beyond most of us, perhaps they will give you an idea. Try one of the experiences at: newsgaming games 
• Could be a fictional counterpoint. 
  • Here's is a short story by Joe Veres based on the Rich Man and Lazarus: Wednesday Morning 4AM_.pdf
  • Here's another story based on the Prodigal Son by David Simpson: All About Her.pdf
• Could be an audio and/or visual presentation. Think of the ones I did in class about Rich Man and Lazarus or the one related to the Mustard Seed. I have a couple more yet to show in class.
